Jimmy Pew Pew spent more than 20 years serving his country in the United States Air Force, deploying five times across Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Middle East. But as he shares in this powerful episode of Homefront Harmony, some of the hardest battles didn’t begin until he came home.
Today, Jimmy serves as the Volunteer & Veteran Activities Coordinator for US Vets, the nation’s largest nonprofit dedicated to ending veteran homelessness. Every day, he helps veterans transition off the streets, build community, find purpose, and reconnect with hope.
In this honest conversation with Stevie Dahl, Jimmy opens up about:
• Growing up in Las Vegas and joining the Air Force before 9/11
• Five deployments and the realities of military service
• Living with PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and recovery
• Why vulnerability can save lives
• His sobriety journey and the importance of asking for help
• How community became the foundation of his healing
• The incredible work US Vets is doing to combat veteran homelessness
• Why organizations working together can change—and save—lives
This episode is a reminder that the mission doesn’t always end when the uniform comes off. For many veterans, the next mission becomes helping those who come after them.
If you or someone you know is struggling after military service, know that you are not alone. Conversations like these help break the stigma around mental health, recovery, PTSD, and asking for help.
